ABOUT OFF ROAD RACING
Off-road racing is an unparalleled sport that beckons daring competitors on a perpetual quest to discover and conquer the most formidable terrain in the natural world.
The visually captivating and thrilling motorsport ignites the passions of spectators, who are spellbound by the gladiatorial struggle between man and machine, pitting their fortitude against the unbridled wilderness.
This dynamic and challenging discipline is gaining popularity, attracting a surge of racers eager to embrace the excitement and test their mettle.

2026 Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship
The Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship has confirmed the iconic Kalgoorlie Desert Race as the fourth and final round of the 2026 National Championship.
In 2025, Kalgoorlie delivered a thrilling conclusion to the national series, with the legendary desert course pushing crews to their absolute limits as championship titles were decided. High stakes, relentless terrain, and a charged atmosphere combined to create one of the most talked-about finales on the calendar, keeping teams and spectators on edge until the final kilometres.
Building on that success, the Kalgoorlie Desert Race will once again host the final round of the Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship in 2026. The season will travel across the country before reaching the Goldfields, with earlier rounds in Pooncarie (NSW), Finke (NT), and Loveday (SA), setting the stage for a dramatic showdown in Kalgoorlie.
Adding even more intensity to the weekend, the event will also host the final round of the Western Australian Off Road Racing Championship, ensuring non stop racing and a packed program for competitors and fans alike.
“To be selected to host such a prestigious event on the off road racing calendar is a true testament to the reputation of the Kalgoorlie Desert Race as a challenging and one of a kind track. I’m incredibly proud of the progress the club, committee, and volunteers, past and present, have made since the first race in 2017, and to see the vision of one day becoming an internationally recognised event now realised,”
— Gus Lacey, Founder of the Kalgoorlie Desert Race.
We are excited to welcome more interstate and international competitors and to showcase everything Kalgoorlie has to offer. The City of Kalgoorlie Boulder and the wider business community are invaluable supporters of this event, which brings a strong contingent of competitors and spectators to the region. The people of Kalgoorlie Boulder look forward to once again welcoming the best riders and drivers in the country to the West.
THE KALGOORLIE DESERT RACE
Since 2017, the Kalgoorlie Desert Race has firmly established itself on the Kalgoorlie-Boulder region’s events calendar, delivering a significant economic boost to the local economy. Over the past six years, it has generated an estimated direct financial impact of up to $5 million (according to REMPLAN).
This thrilling off-road event unites riders and drivers from both the motorcycling and four-wheeled off-road racing worlds, pushing their endurance and skills against the rugged terrain of Kalgoorlie’s red sandy tracks and loamy bushland.
Conveniently located near the Kalgoorlie town centre, the course features a diverse mix of terrain — from flat salt lakes to wooded sections with well-formed berms — offering competitors the opportunity to truly test their limits. Now in its seventh year, the race has developed a unique cult following among competitors, with participation continuing to grow each year.
The approximately 121-kilometre, essentially circular course includes a mid-way fuel stop, making it both accessible and manageable for a thrilling weekend of desert racing. The Kalgoorlie Desert Race offers a spectacular setting for competitors and spectators alike, satisfying the appetite of adrenaline junkies seeking an unforgettable off-road experience.
